Headgear

diane0922Here's something you may not know about me...I used to wear headgear for a year. Yes, the full on headgear that went on top of your head and then down to this metal mustache of a thing...To be honest, I thought it was the coolest!  My friend and I even posed with our "gear" and proudly wore it to school. (WHAT WAS I THINKING!?)Well, there seems to be a lot of 'head gear' going on in fashion this spring: hippie headbands, floral headbands, scarves...Do you have a favorite? Do you wish they didn't exist? I have a headband fettish, could be remnants of my love for my first headgear, but I'm definitely liking this fashion trend! freepeopleurbanoutfittersrebeccataylorubranoutfitters1

I was joking around with my brother-in-law, Adrian, that it would be so funny if I married someone with the last name 'Alexander,' thus creating 'Alexandra Alexander.' I'm already married to Ryan and have the last name Evjen, but if I could have a fashion line marriage, I would definitely consider joining forces with the popular new 24 year old designer, Alexander Wang.Fashion critics have been buzzing about him for awhile. He went grew up in San Fran and went to Parsons School for Design. His style reminds me of Jil Sander mixed with Narciso Rodriguez (two of my favorites). I'm sure he's going to become a household name in the future being that he already has the upmost respect from the fashion community at age 24! Plus, celebrities are wearing his designs left and right - Michelle Williams, Lindsay Lohan, Lauren Conrad, Kate Hudson... Well, maybe when I'm looking for an internship Mr. Alexander Wang will favor me because of my name...(Sigh)...

Rompin' 'Round

The romper is running into stores this year for spring and summer collections. I haven't worn a romper since I was four, but I have to say...I'm kind of excited! You don't need to worry about matching a top and a bottom. It's everything in one and they're shorts (sometimes pants)! I feel like the theme of fashion this year is "anything goes." I love that! It makes me feel relaxed about my style and also inspires me to be more experimental. What are your thought about "the romper?" Do you like that fashion feels like a "free for all" direction?

Admissions Essay

img00079Well, my application is underway...I have to write an essay that discusses, why I have chosen FIDM versus my other choices, what majors I am considering and why, how long I have considered this field and what my career goals are post graduation. Pretty thorough! I also got my information packet. I must say, I definitely know I'm applying to an art school just by the awesome attention to detail and graphic design of the course catalog!!! SO EXCITED!!!

Vogue - The Fashion Bible

kate-hudson-vogue-january-2008Ever since I was little I have been flipping through the pages of Vogue. It is a magazine that my mom always had by her side. Elle, Glamour, InStyle...They don't compare Vogue's timelessness. This magazine is known for being the Bible of the fashion industry. I always know that whenever I pick up an issue I'm going to hear about new upcoming designers and hot fashion trends. It's definitely a "must" for the person that wants to keep up on HIGH fashion versus popular consumer trends that magazine like InStyle and Lucky tend to write about. I haven't had a subscription to a fashion magazine in awhile just because in college I was a nomad, but now that I have seriously started pursuing the fashion industry, I need to subscribe! It definitely has been a muse in my life and will continue to be.
