Eleven Minutes - Indie film about Project Runway contestant

elevenminutesProject Runway has to be my favorite show. Yes, people, I like it better than LOST! Well, if you haven't heard of Eleven Minutes and you're a Project Runway fan you need to get your butt to the theater this weekend! Eleven Minutes is an idependent film made by the first Project Runway winner, Jay MCarroll, all about his journey post reality tv to becoming a ligit fashion designer. It's about his quest to show his creations at Bryant Park and have them picked up by some major buyers.  See a full synoposis here. (Apparently, PR doesn't really help you).

Madewell by JCrew

madewelllogoFor those that don't know me, JCrew is one of my all-time favorite stores. It embodies the all-american classic style that I love. It is simple, bright, casual, comfortable and well-made. I worked at JCrew for a couple of years, and though I didn't like being on my feet all day, I loved selling a brand that I am 100% behind. Well, my favorite store has started a new brand for the young college crowd, Madewell. JCrew still feels old for me at times, but they still have a lot of basics and pieces that are fun. Well, now I have everything I want with Madewell. It is funky, classic and Americana in one. What do you think? I can't wait until they have an online store, and even better, a physical store here in Phoenix!

Drool! La Merde jackets and hoodies

cape_2tI'm not a man, but if I was a man I would be wearing these amazing jackets and hoodies by La Merde. My friend Rob, soon to be husband of one of my all-time best friends, has amazing style and showed me these... The attention to detail is out of this world! Seriously, drool!!! Not to mention, I have an intense love for seersucker anything, so the fact that they made a hoodie and a jacket out of seersucker...I'm sold. Like or dislike?

Fashion Sketches

sandrasuy9

So, I've been working on my admissions project, and I must say, I've been feeling a bit discouraged. I thought that I could just jump right in and start sketching just like I never stopped some years ago...Not the case. It's definitely something I'm out of practice with and have to do daily to get my chops back. So, as I add to my notebook daily, I've decided to also get some insipiration from other artists out there. Here is one group of sketches I adore! The artist is Sandra Suy. I like how she brings to life elements of her drawings by using splashes of color, and at the same time, is very detailed in her sketch. What do you think?

Implementation is always the hardest

So, I figured I should give you all an update on my status of pursuing my dream...I have everything pretty much done except for my project and apparently FIDM hasn't received my transcripts still. So, I need to check in on that and get my butt going on my project - the hardest part for me. I truly enjoy drawing and working on the admissions project for FIDM, but I definitely thought it was going to come more easily to me than it is. I find my perfectionistic self getting in the way of the enjoyment and eating me up to the point of discouragement. I truly am my own worst enemy.

Back in November, I went to an entrepreneurs conference. One of the biggest things I took away from the conference was that most people fail at starting their own company when they reach the point of implementation. Either they can't figure out how to implement their idea/dream or they discourage themselves from following through. Knowing how to finish my project isn't the question. It's thinking thinking the lies of "I don't stand a chance," "What the heck are you thinking," "There is so much competition out there. You'll never make it," and the list goes on.

As I write this, I'm just realizing how silly it is of me to even think those big picture thoughts when all I'm doing is finishing an application! Goodness. Anyhoo, there's some insight into my mind.

Anyone understand where I'm coming from? How did your pursuits of your goals turn out?
