Bright White

Happy Friday! It's Memorial Day weekend, and I'm relaxing and hanging out with my family for the next couple of days.

I thought the perfect way to end the week and start the party would be to show some fashion inspiration based on the most popular color of the summer season AND a color found in our American flag - WHITE.

What are your plans for the weekend? BBQ?

Lovely Lace

I'm not sure if it was the Duchess of Cambridge's wedding dress that really set the lace trend in motion or not...Last year it was fairly popular, but this summer lace has EXPLODED!

I've definitely jumped on the train, and recently purchased a tan lace top from Buffalo Exchange. I'm not sure my craving has been completely quenched though. A gorgeous lace dress or lace tights (more realistic for my budget) are on my list.

Do you like this trend? If so, what lace item are you wanting?

Jayna Jordan

I'd like to introduce all of you to a rising star, Miss Jayna Jordan.

This beautiful high school gal can act, play the guitar AND sing!

You can spot her showing off her acting chops in the popular Disney TV movie Lemonade Mouth.

With the teamwork of Session Nine Photography, myself and Jayna, we came up with a photo shoot concept that shows off her romantic, whimsy, bohemian personality.

Jayna is a bookworm and an old soul at heart. At home she surrounds herself with good reads, her journals and pens to write her poetry, lyrics and thoughts. So, we created a scene with books, papers and sunlight inside of a historic house in downtown Phoenix.

She's a coffee lover, so of course, we had to throw in a coffee mug.

We kept Jayna's hair and makeup very simple, and chose natural, bohemian clothing to keep a soft, feminine and approachable presence. Jayna always sings with bare feet, so we avoided shoes for most of the shoot.

Side note: If you're planning a portrait or family photo session, really take the time to come up with a story or setting that suits your family. It is SO much fun to create something you would find in a movie or magazine, AND it helps communicate your personality further.

We also photographed Jayna outside a downtown Phoenix coffee shop called Lola. It's my all time favorite cafe to hang out in, and was perfect for the shoot.

I hope you love the photos, and go check out Jayna's pipes. Click here to listen.

Outlined

I have always been a fan of piping. It's one of those dress maker details that can bring a boring blouse or jacket to life. Usually I only see it on jackets. I even own an awesome J.Crew wool jacket with black piping, and it's my favorite blazer I own. I look like Hermione Granger in it, which is secretly a compliment to me because I LOVE Harry Potter. haha!

Through the lens of Pinterest, I'm starting to see this detail on summer blouses and dresses! With the INSANE stripe, chevron and geometric craze, this is a more subtle way to create linear and horizontal lines and stay on trend.

Peter Pan Syndrome

Peter pan collars are popping up in summer collections, and I can guarantee you'll be seeing a lot of attention on shirt and dress collars as a whole this fall.

Menswear has already made buttoning the top button of dress shirts cool, and this trend, as well as peter pan collars, are being absorbed in women's wear.

You can even purchase collars that lay on top of your crew neck sweaters, cardigans or circular necklines separately.

Here's the deal though...This trend is for the small chested. In general, if you have a large bust line (D cup and up), your body looks larger without some skin space. So, if you're in that classification, stick to v-necks and scoop necks and sit this trend out.
