Ikat Print

Ikat, or ikkat, is a popular summer print right now, and if you're like me you may be asking yourself, "So how do you pronounce this correctly?"

Here you go..."ee-kot."

This special dying technique is somewhat similar to tie-dye, and creates soft, colorful prints that have an African and South American vibe.

I definitely love this print for home accents and can't get over the DKNY Ikat dress at the very end. To. Die. For.

Stacked.

I think I have mentioned this before, but I'm not really an accessories person. I tend to wear the same earrings and necklaces over an over again. The only rings that ever grace my fingers are my wedding bands for the most part. Even my purse hasn't changed for about six months.

That's just my personality though. I enjoy simple things, I like to "accessorize" with makeup and leave the talking to the clothes.

But just because that's my style, doesn't mean I should deprive you of accessory trends. So, if you're a lover of bracelets, start stacking them! Mix and match colors, textures and sizes. You can even throw a watch in for good measure.

If you're older and think this trend isn't for you, you're wrong. Just simplify it a bit - only stack three or four bracelets.

Here's some inspiration for you...

Bright White

Happy Friday! It's Memorial Day weekend, and I'm relaxing and hanging out with my family for the next couple of days.

I thought the perfect way to end the week and start the party would be to show some fashion inspiration based on the most popular color of the summer season AND a color found in our American flag - WHITE.

What are your plans for the weekend? BBQ?

Lovely Lace

I'm not sure if it was the Duchess of Cambridge's wedding dress that really set the lace trend in motion or not...Last year it was fairly popular, but this summer lace has EXPLODED!

I've definitely jumped on the train, and recently purchased a tan lace top from Buffalo Exchange. I'm not sure my craving has been completely quenched though. A gorgeous lace dress or lace tights (more realistic for my budget) are on my list.

Do you like this trend? If so, what lace item are you wanting?

Jayna Jordan

I'd like to introduce all of you to a rising star, Miss Jayna Jordan.

This beautiful high school gal can act, play the guitar AND sing!

You can spot her showing off her acting chops in the popular Disney TV movie Lemonade Mouth.

With the teamwork of Session Nine Photography, myself and Jayna, we came up with a photo shoot concept that shows off her romantic, whimsy, bohemian personality.

Jayna is a bookworm and an old soul at heart. At home she surrounds herself with good reads, her journals and pens to write her poetry, lyrics and thoughts. So, we created a scene with books, papers and sunlight inside of a historic house in downtown Phoenix.

She's a coffee lover, so of course, we had to throw in a coffee mug.

We kept Jayna's hair and makeup very simple, and chose natural, bohemian clothing to keep a soft, feminine and approachable presence. Jayna always sings with bare feet, so we avoided shoes for most of the shoot.

Side note: If you're planning a portrait or family photo session, really take the time to come up with a story or setting that suits your family. It is SO much fun to create something you would find in a movie or magazine, AND it helps communicate your personality further.

We also photographed Jayna outside a downtown Phoenix coffee shop called Lola. It's my all time favorite cafe to hang out in, and was perfect for the shoot.

I hope you love the photos, and go check out Jayna's pipes. Click here to listen.
