Winter Whites

White is a color normally reserved for spring and summer, but recently, I have seen white incorporated into winter outfits. White separates with darker winter ones is a surprising pairing that can spice up your outfit when everyone else is in black and navy. Here are a few ways to pair your white pieces with a winter outfit. Wear white pants! Add a utility jacket and menswear inspired button-down to insure your outfit is not too "summer brunch".

Throw on a white blazer instead of the usual black so you stand out in a sea of dark winter coat wearers.

And my favorite: a white faux fur! Chic AND warm...like a polar bear.

Midi rings

One accessory we've been seeing a lot of are midi rings. They're so unique and dainty and add a bit of trend and charm to an outfit without going overboard. I'm never sure what to call these; I usually go with "knuckle rings", but have recently realized saying knuckle rings makes people think I'm talking about brass knuckles...midi rings is probably a more appropriate term. My favorite midi rings come from Catbird: they're the perfect size and great for layering. midiring1

This beautiful shot from Mr. Kate's "Days of Ore" lookbook shows a more boho approach to midi rings.

Wear your midi rings layered with others, or do one on its own. These rings really add a unique detail to your outfit and are an accessory worth trying.

How to Wear Floral Pants

You may or may not be a fan of the floral pant trend. For some, it reminds them of the 80's and early 90's, and I guess that's a bad thing. For me, a lover of bright colored denim, I am ALL over this trend. In addition to buying these pretty pants from Target that are showcased in the February issue of EMMA Magazine, I just bought a pair of satin pants from Macy's for a grand total of $16.98. Let's hear it for this bargain hunter! WOOP WOOP! So, if you are not on board yet, check out the images below of the Target pants that I styled three ways. You can wear them causally with a tank, throw on some stripes, or dress them up with a peplum top. Have fun!

Being a Working Mom

Part of the reason why I started this blog was to share my journey in becoming a fashion stylist. And now that it has been three years since  my leap of faith into the fashion industry, this blog has served as a place for me to update you with career news in addition to fashion trends. Thus, I thought I would touch on what it has been like to be a working stylist and a mom at the same time. Screen Shot 2013-01-31 at 9.49.14 PM

Being an emotional person, it has shocked me that I haven't really cried very much throughout the journey of pregnancy and motherhood. I thought I would be a bit of a basket case, but instead, I've become incredibly calm and patient. I credit God for this new found sense of peace. However, this past December I think I spent a whole day teary-eyed and overwhelmed by the thought of possibly having to give up styling. Let's just say the cost of childcare pretty much negates what I earn through styling, and it's very hard to bring a baby with you and work.

Obviously, my family comes before work, but it's also important to spend time doing things that replenish your soul. For me, creating art is part of that process. So, I realized right now that just means doing less styling for a season, but it doesn't have to go completely away. I'll still be doing closet sessions, personal shopping and styling photo shoots, but I just wont be doing as many as I normally do.

You've heard me talk about EMMA Magazine a couple times before. This magazine was started by young moms like myself that completely understand the struggle of balancing motherhood, marriage and our art forms. Working for EMMA is definitely one place I can bring Elle and still do my craft. Here are some photos showing us with our babies on set.

If you're reading this and you are a mom or would love to one day be one, know that the transition in becoming a mom is hard and amazing at the same time. But it doesn't mean you need to completely say good-bye to your passion. It just will take a back seat to a new found joy - loving on a beautiful baby.

Spring Beauty: Must Haves

It's almost time for spring; which is, in my opinion, the best season for beauty trends. Here are a few products I love or can't wait to try! First up: Lip Tar! If you haven't tried this product yet, you definitely should! It's a long lasting lipstick that comes in SO many hues, and Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics products are 100% vegan and cruelty free, which is a huge plus.

Another in the lips category: Revlon Lip Butter. This is essentially a moisturizing lipstick, but it comes in great spring time colors such as Tutti Frutti (a bright, coral orange) and Sweet Tart (a bold pink)

For eyes: I think we will gravitate away from the liquid, cat-eye liner from fall and winter towards softer shades in pencil liner for spring. Try the Urban Decay 24/7 Gilde-On Eye Pencil in a dark plum or navy.

For your face: I'm not much of a blush girl, but Bobbi Brown's Pot Rouge in Pale Pink looks like a perfect color for spring. This cream blush also multitasks as lip color, so you get two-for-one!

For your nails: This is my favorite category of beauty. Although my nails chip the second I step away from the polish, I am crazy about nail color. Essie has a wide range of pastel shades that are just right for spring time. My personal favorite is Lilacism, a pale lavender.
