Game changer. That's what this project is to me. A career-shifting, game-changing, spirit-awakening styled shoot with incredible talent and passion.

Last September I became a mom. I added another role to my life and made the balancing act of work and life even harder. It has taken me a year to get the hang of things, and along the way I think my styling has suffered. At the end of this past spring I found myself taking projects simply to keep my portfolio fresh and make it appear that I'm still busy. Let me tell ya, that is the WRONG reason to approach anything. Though others may not notice, I promise you will look at your work and feel dissatisfaction if you take jobs for those reasons.

Fast forward to June, my dear friend Alejandra Vidal asked me to be a part of a brand project for...wait for it...Jasmine Star! I said yes within seconds. If you don't know Jasmine Star's work and haven't read her blog you will now and you can thank me later. She's one of the most REAL and sincere people I have ever met. She is a dynamic speaker, writer and photographer that gets to work with dream brides every day.

As Alejandra and I began to plan and flesh this story out using the amazing power of Pinterest, the character and personalities of the models came to life. I was able to visualize what they would eat, drink and say. I knew what kind of music he would listen to and what she would throw on for the day. My simple task of styling morphed into art direction. Soon enough we added a prop stylist (Misha West) because we knew this project needed that kind of attention to detail. Of course, hair, makeup and a kick butt location were all figured out, and then the day came that Alejandra and Jasmine captured the story through motion and photography. More than that they captured the feeling of the moment.

You guys, this was a game changer. Watch the video and you'll see what I mean.

Desert Rendezvous with Jasmine Star from Ale Vidal - Imaginale on Vimeo.

I was never good at math, but here's an equation that I will always calculate before I decide to accept a project. Passion for the subject + Plenty of planning + Great team = Beautiful work

This styled shoot elevated Jasmine's brand even further. Seeing her pictures makes me feel something, and it makes me want to feel it all of the time. All I can say is, a new chapter has begun. You can definitely count on seeing more art direction from me and more motion from Alejandra. As for Miss Jasmine, well, that girl is on FIRE as Alicia Keys would say.

Pinterest Hair Tutorial: Tuck 'n Roll

I've been on Pinterest since  the beginning of 2011. It has taken me two and a half years to actually attempt an online hair tutorial. Yep, you heard that right. haha. My frustration with my hair has been an on-going thing since my mom stopped doing it for me when I was seven. I don't know why it took me so long to trust the internet with my hair, but I'm happy to say that I tried a great tutorial and found some success. I chose the simple tuck 'n roll. There are tutorials for this style all over the place, but I thought Refinery 29 did a really great job with theirs. Check out my results below, and click here for the DIY tutorial. It was SOOOO easy, and now you can see me wearing my hair this way at least two days a week.

Do you have any recommendations for other great hair DIY's? I'd love to hear them!

Gingham Style Party

Earlier, I posted some Instagram moments from my iPhone of Elle and Ryan's joint birthday party (see post here). Today, I'm sharing some beautiful pictures of the day captured by my dear friend Gina of Gina Meola Photography. View More: http://ginameola.pass.us/bday

Gingham was the inspiration behind this party. My husband wears the pattern all of the time. We took the idea of an in-door picnic and ran with it with some party planning assistance from  my friend Jessica Helgeson. If you know me at all you know that I don't like throwing parties all that much. I love going to them, but definitely not hosting them. I needed some help without a doubt!

My mom flew in for the event and was kind enough to take care of all of the food prep with additional helping hands from my friend, Kim, who drew some pretty chalk art work.

All of the fluffy poufs you see in the photos were made by my sis-in-law Nicky.

So, you might be asking what I actually made...Well, a zillion and one origami cranes, an awesome birthday banner and some runners. I literally patted myself on the back because for a not-so-crafty gal I thought it would pretty good. haha.

Most importantly, Elle and Ryan had a terrific time, and that's all I wanted. Until next year...

InStyle Social Media Awards Nominee

Four years ago when I decided that I just had to pursue fashion as if it was something inside of me ready to burst out of my chest I didn't really know where my passion would take me. I wasn't even thinking much about wether or not I was going to succeed or fail. It was about this desire to create beauty and encourage people. These past years have been an incredible ride. From my first photo shoot to my first runway experience to my first time getting published to my inexplainable growth on Pinterest to working with brands I never thought I'd touch with a ten foot pole to now being nominated for an award by one of my favorite magazines EVER! Little me? I have dried applesauce on my arm and my hair isn't even brushed as I type this. I never thought in a million years that I would catch the attention of such a popular publication like InStyle magazine and be nominated for a social media award. This is something that I can only credit God with because there are so many other talents out there that have more followers, equally cool Pinterest boards and probably did their hair today. I am so humbled by how faithful God is and how He can truly knock our socks off our feet whenever He wants. haha. In the moments when I found myself thinking that the success of my business was by my own two hands I found myself tripping over mistakes and stressed to the max. It's when I hold my business with palms facing up, flat as pancakes He truly blows me away.

So, whether you believe in God or not, I just want you to know that it's worth dreaming big and taking a gut-felt risk. And, there's a REALLY good chance your dreams and goals are going to look different as you go through life, but I promise you will be blown away.

If you have time, please go vote for me. Click here. And if you feel like being extra generous, please share with your friends. #InStyleSMAs
