Everyone has those mornings where you wake up, stare blankly at your closet and mutter, "I have nothing to wear." Everyone! Yes, even stylists. Here is the kicker...the safety uniform. Some people have one and some people don't. Do I? Heck yes! What is it?
Right now...a black blazer, v-neck and skinny jeans/pants. Call me a Michael Kors copycat if you want, but it's the safest thing on the planet and you're guaranteed to still look stylish.
Yes, it's incredibly boring and not creative at all, BUT this uniform is for those moments of panic when you don't have time to think because you're late for a meeting or you're feeling down on yourself because nothing seems to look great.
It's the grilled cheese or bowl of Cheerios solution to when you have nothing to eat in your house, but you want something that tastes good and will satisfy.
Your safety uniform can come in different forms...a timeless shirt dress, a vintage blouse, a pencil skirt, etc...Right now mine just happens to be a black blazer and v-neck t-shirt.
Every person should figure out what their safety uniform is and have it in their closet for emergencies of negative self talk or being late so they don't go the rest of the day avoiding glances in the mirror.
Do you have a safety uniform? If so, what is it?
Do you remember the days when nail polish only came in pinks and reds? Sometimes you would see things tilt toward purple or orange, but you never saw lime green, royal blue and definitely not black except for Halloween.
I think my first time seeing blue nail polish was in the Delia's catalog or in Hard Candy's makeup line. Remember those days?
Now we have a rainbow of choices including sparkles and metallics.
For the past couple of years deep navy, black, plumb and white have all enjoyed their time in the spotlight as "THE nail color of the season" thanks to iconic fashion house Chanel.
So, what's the trend now? Well, shades of pale greens, pale blues, lavender, coral and all things glitter are everywhere. But to be honest, I feel like nail color trends have kind of died and now it's just a free for all. Do you agree or disagree?
It's time to start tucking those shirt tails and long tanks into your pants and skirts. Tucking in shirts is a trend that has been showing up since last fall, but it's now in full swing. Oxford shirts, t-shirts, tank tops and blouses can all be tucked into your skinny jeans, trousers, a-line skirts and pencil skirts. See below for some examples of different outfits with shirts tucked in. Fashion images by J.Crew.
I'm not sure if you have noticed, but I don't post about jewelry very often. That's mostly because I don't wear or purchase it very often either. Stylist confession time...By FAR, my weakest point of knowledge is the accessory department.
There! It's out in the open and on the internet forever.
BUT!...and here's a big BUT...One of my goals this year is to become more aware of the talented jewelry designers out there, and consequently you will too!
So, first up is Dannijo. I really love the latest collection. Big, chunky eclectic statements.
This jewelry line was started in 2008 by two sisters in New York City. Each piece is hand-made, and artfully combines an indie-hipster vibe with high fashion.
Check out this really cool video of their fall collection too!
